About SPSS

SPSS is a software package built specifically for statistical analysis. SPSS also refers to the company that used to develop and sell the SPSS product.

SPSS was also the name of the company that sold SPSS and SPSS training courses. SPSS was a US company and had a branch in Sydney (SPSS Australasia Pty Ltd) that looked after Australia and parts of South East Asia. SPSS is now owned by IBM so is now referred to as “SPSS an IBM company”. The SPSS website is now part of the IBM site.

As a result of being taken over by IBM, the SPSS the software package has undergone a couple of name changes over the last few years. Older versions of SPSS are still referred to by these names. SPSS Statistics, PASW Statistics and IBM SPSS Statistics all refer to past versions of the product formerly known as SPSS (or more correctly SPSS Base), they are not different software packages.
