Course description:

Data manipulation techniques for handling dates, times and names that you've always needed, but didn't realise you could do within SPSS.

Streamline your process by performing your pre-analysis data manipulation within SPSS rather than swapping between Excel and SPSS (important if you intend to automate procedures).

Topics covered:

  • Manipulation of time and date data
    • Time and date formats
    • Entering data
    • Calculating differences between times and between dates
    • Calculating day of the week or week of the year from date data
       
  • Manipulating name data
    • Separating names into given, initials and surnames
    • Capitalising surnames
    • Identifying duplicated names
       
  • Using the data restructure wizard
    • Cases to variables
    • Variables to cases
Assumed knowledge:

Attendees should have an understanding of SPSS equivalent to that taught in the Intro to SPSS course.

Attendee requirements:

Course attendees are required to bring their own laptop installed with a licensed copy of SPSS Base version 10 or above.
Laptops are available for hire at an additional cost.

Note: Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 4 attendees.
